Algarrobo in the Costa del Sol

Algarrobo is a small municipality with an area of less than 10 square kilometres.
It extends over a territory from the very edge of the mountains of La Axarquía down to the coastline.
The River Algarrobo-Sayalonga crosses the municipality from north to south, flowing through a valley whose landscape used to be covered by olive trees, almond trees and vineyards. Today the valley is mostly used for the cultivation of subtropical fruits and vegetables, and the slopes are being transformed into terraces to host these new plantations.

The urban nucleus of Algarrobo is about three kilometers inland from the coast and it has a Moorish architecture.
The area next to the beach is known as Algarrobo-Costa and is mostly made up of tourism-oriented buildings.
